John Legend’s ‘All of Me’ (Director Nabil) and A Great Big World’s ‘Already Home’(Director Isaac Rentz) both are Pop-music video that include reference to the couple’s love story, which also show two couples go through falling in love, misunderstand, break up, and reunite in their life. I prefer song ‘Already Home’, because it clearly expresses a theme, which is the love transcends any distance.
And ‘All of Me’, the singer John Legend expresses the deep love to his lover, he uses beautiful singing to infect and move everyone, I can feel his feelings, but it does not have a specific theme. Second, the story of Already Home has a more profound meaning, it makes me want to think about my life, and the plot of ‘All of Me’ is monotonous fairly, and the tone of the video is simply black and white. Additionally, ‘Already Home’ shot a lot of places in the music video, and the subjects of video are close to life. The music video let me give my emotional depth to this song.
But music video ‘All of Me’ is too romantic, parts of the plot made me feel not real. A Great Big World’s ‘Already Home’ was released on January 21, 2014; and John Legend’s ‘All of Me’ was released on August 12, 2013. All of Me’ is a song that John Legend wrote for his fiancee, he expresses the deep love to his lover, and uses rich voice to move everyone. John Legend sings how he loves his lady who is the only one in the world. He loves her, flaws and all.
Even when she is yelling, screaming or driving him nuts, he still loves every inch of her. She is everything to him. Similar to John Legend’s ‘All of Me,’ A Great Big World’s ‘Already Home’ offer viewers a moving love story, and show how the love changes the difficulty in our life. I prefer song ‘Already Home’, because I can see a clear theme in the music video, which is the love transcends any distance. It’s really showing whether two cities that are far apart thousands of miles, it still cannot separate two people who loves each other.
But in John Legend’s ‘All of Me’, I can feel his feelings, but it does not have a specific theme. For example, the two protagonists of ‘Already Home’ go on dates together, enjoying life together and pretty much fall in love. After an argument, they each choose to travel across the country. Then, they finally discover that they still miss each other, and they immediately buy a ticket, fly to be with each other.
I can see the happy ending that clearly shows the distance is not the obstructive force of love, but how Pop-music video ‘Already Home’ has a more profound meaning, it makes me want to think about my life, and the plot of ‘All of Me’ is monotonous fairly, and the tone of the video is simply black and white. The story of ‘Already Home’ touched me more than John Legend’s ‘All of Me’, because his story happen at ordinary times, people often can’t solve the problem of long distance of being in love. People don’t know how to insist in this kind of relationship generally; but from the story of ‘Already Home’, I can see the love can really transcends any difficulty, distance will not hinder the lovers fall in love. The viewers also can go through similar events throughout their life, while watch music video ‘Already Home’. A Great Big World shows that love transcends distance by using the relationship of a couple, which includes heated arguments and sweet moments, and also have its happy ending. In the other hand, ‘All of me’ was used simple perform on the piano with John legend’s soul singing, but I prefer A Great Big World’s ‘Already Home’.
Because this band was using simple lyrics that easy to remember and pure voice, but it doesn’t make the song become normal. In the part of song, A great Big World plays some drum and bass, to show ups and downs of the song. As an audience, I feel very comfortable when I was watching video, and I was completely brought into the story of this music video. Already Home’ lets me feel like I’m the protagonist in the music video, probably because I have a similar experience. Additionally, ‘Already Home’ was filmed a lot of places in the music video. Many frames of this music video was filmed in Los Angeles and New York.
The male protagonist reps the west coast and sunny California, and the female protagonist plays her scenes from New York City in the east coast. They were filmed in many places, such as restaurants, the subway, the sitting room, and the seaside, and so on. I can feel the subjects of this video are close to life. The music video let me give my emotional depth to this song. But music video ‘All of Me’ is too romantic, parts of the plot made me feel not real.
In the video of ‘All of Me’, John Legend gets naked and kissed in the shower and underwater with his fiancee, while he singing the song which wrote for his only love. The video ends with footage from their actual wedding in Lake Como, Italy. I don’t really understand those actions, because its plot switch too fast, for example, they kissed under the deep water, it is too dreamlike, and more likes a fictional story. It make me feel not real. However, in the ‘Already Home’, the vision brought to us was to showcase a relationship and difficulties with distance. At first I thought it would end with the couple being in different cities, but the magic occurred.
The couple appeared in two places at the same time, they kissed after found out each other. At the end of the lyrics, A Great Big World was singing, “When you’re scared and alone, just know that I’m already home. ” This lyrics is a perfect happy ending, and it fully points the main idea of this story, which is love transcends any distance. After evaluating both Pop-music videos, A Great Big World’s ‘Already Home’ and John Legend’s ‘All of Me’ show me how the love changes any problem in the life.
I would like to say that ‘Already Home’ is better to tell everyone the essence of love. It uses a lot of connections of trifles to make a couple’s story, and the story of this video music is so real to the viewer. After I compared two music videos, I’m easier to find out the main idea of ‘Already Home’. A Great Big World has a message to convey to me, which is the distance is not the obstructive force of love.
