The different types of political crimes include; treason, espionage, and terrorism These crimes are referred to as political crimes because they present a direct challenge to the ruling government. Some actions are considered to be political crimes because they involve obtaining wrong, information that can be used by another country or individual or even a group to compromise national security. The disclosure of such information may at times jeopardize the economic well-being or relationships with other countries. Treason is the deliberate action by an individual to betray his or her country. This can be in the form of participating in the murder of a politician or exposure of information that is confidential (classified) to another country.
The US constitution provides for an allegiance that is necessary as a precondition for the government of the country. This allegiance is provided by the treason law which provides for the definition of the obligations of the citizens which bestows upon them the duty of loyalty. In other words, treason law provides for established actions that define some of the essential elements of the political obligations to the citizens. The process of getting information that is classified and confidential by use of agents or technical means. Espionage is the act of spying on the government or individual of a country. This can be an activity where a country sponsors any individual to spy on another country or individuals and report back to them.
The reason for spying may be to influence decision-making or opinion of others for the benefit and interests of a foreign country. Espionage is considered a criminal act, however, the action of the offenders do not necessarily have to be aimed to overturn a government or to overthrow the leadership of a country. The act of espionage is considered to have been done when a state perceives an action threatens the established order. In some cases, championing for the need for reforms of established policies of a government, or showing some degree of lack of loyalty such as engaging in acts as the burning of a nation’s flag in public, may be treated as espionage.
