The term “civilized society” as we understand it does not match withAnimal Abuse Our world is full of cruelty and violence, unlike animals; humans have the ability to ask for help. Every day we hear stories about animal abuse through mass media even though there is a law in place that is supposedly there to prevent cruelty to animals. All the law does is imposing a fine to the violator. Many people want the government to toughen the laws with animals but the legislation is not worried about protection of the animals. We live in a civilized society and animal abuse is not compatible with the terms “humanity” and “moral”. We should treat animals with moral norm. Animal protection should be a priority for every self-respecting man. People bring animals in their homes as pets but don’t always remember that we have to take care for them and keep them healthy.
They sometimes blamed them for their own failures and hurt them .Some owners may get tired of their pets which causes their pets to lose their home and possibly their life so animals need protection from even irresponsible owners. Animals count on their person to help them be happy and healthy.I would like to share a few articles that I found. In the Animal-Cruelty Syndrome article there are multiple stories about animal abuse. One is about a 2-year-old female pit bull terrier (Phoenix) who was doused in gasoline and set alight.Phoenix was euthanized four days later due to injuries from her burns. There was not enough evidence to penalize the people who did this to Phoenix. It also states that the abuse of pit bulls in dog-fighting activities, has achieved a higher profile after the 2007 arrest of the N.F.L. star Michael Vick for operating an illegal interstate dog-fighting operation in Surry County, Va.Animal abuse is basically a “power-and-control crime”.
In an article in the Mercury Crystal Ehlert, a California man was killed in a disagreement about a cockfight bet. It was a dispute over a $10 bet at Merced County cockfight in California. One man was shot during the dispute. The shooter was chased down by the victim’s brother and another man and was beaten to death. So not only is animal abuse despicable towards animals but it can cause violence in people My goal is to inform people that there are different ways to prevent animal cruelty, to protect as many animals as possible. It is also to inform people that there are many different ways of animal abuse. These include the domestic abuse that I have been writing about but also experimental use, entertainment, clothing and food.
To attain this goal, I will provide you with some ways and organizations that help prevent animal cruelty. Some of the ways you can help animal abuse is by being a vegetarian or vegan, avoid using products tested on animals, volunteer at local shelters and not purchasing items made out of animals such s fur. One organization is PETA (People Ethical Treatment Animals).PETA is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than 6.5 million members and supporters.
PETA informs people, does research, and helps with animal rescue and special events. Another organization is ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) which Randall Lockwood is the senior vice president. It is a non- profit organization about animal protection, placement and rescue that depends entirely on donations from kindhearted people like you. “Pets are dying or being discarded or running away” (Randall Lockwood1). We must stop animal abuse, because they, as well as people, feel pain and mistreatment .We need to be the “voice” of the animals. They have rights too.
