How do you find a statistic?
In order to calculate the statistic, we must calculate the sample means ( x and y) and sample standard deviations (σ x and σ y) for each sample separately. n 1 and n 2 represent the two sample sizes. The sample sizes do not have to be equal. We then proceed by finding the difference between the sample means ( x - y ) .
