Function: My product must look good and luxurious and must be appealing to customers; it must also be able to protect chocolate inside the packaging. The function of the design that is going to go on the packaging has to attract the eye and has to make the chocolate look a luxurious product. Target Market: The product should be aimed at anybody, and any age but most of all attract the mature members of the public. Other members of the public it will have to attract are maybe the wealthy members. The needs of the target market will be to use chocolate as a gift and that they need to go for luxurious types of chocolate.
Materials: The main package which is the box will need to be made of Card this is because it is easy to fold, score and shape it is also recyclable. Inside there will be a tray for the chocolates – this will be made of a plastic substance that should be recyclable. Location: The product is likely to be used in a shop on display or stacked on shelves in the shop. This will affect the design by it maybe getting scuffed or maybe damaged. The product will also be used at a consumers household – here the design may get damaged and will look used.
Manufacturing: To manufacture a prototype of my design I will need to use a precise designing computer programme and a precise cutter and scorer. To make a batch of 50 products I will probably need a factory of precise cutters all linked to the initial design. Aesthetics: The colours that I will use would be that of luxurious ones and from my survey people thought that Dark reds and Golds best represent this I may use other colours like a charcoal black to make a more bolder look. The Shape of this chocolate box will be the usual square shaped box because it is handled and stacked easily.
Environment: I will pay particular attention to the environment. As my product is made out of card it will be easily recycled and used again and will not damage the environment. The inside tray should be recyclable as it will be made out of plastic. Ergonomics: the consumers of this product will interact with it by opening the box and maybe take the tray out. It will be ergonomically efficient because everyone can do that. Life in Service: the expected life time of this product will only be 1-2 days minimum as when the chocolates are eaten the box is thrown away.
