The term “rock and roll” means different things to different people. For example, someone might tell you that rock and roll is the way the live their life or that it’s their “lifestyle. ” If someone tells you that rock and roll is their lifestyle, generally speaking it means that they like to party a lot and get wasted. Heavy use of drugs and alcohol are usually associated with a rock and roll lifestyle.
On the other hand there are many people who will tell you that rock and roll is just another genre of music and that there are many different types of rock and roll music such as blues, classic rock, country, pop rock, hard rock, metal, heavy metal and so on. The list could go on and on but depending on the individual, the list could be just as simple as classic rock, pop rock and hard rock. If someone were to ask me “what is rock and roll? ” I would explain to them my concept of rock and roll music.
Rock and roll music for me isn’t just about the music though, it’s about the feelings and emotions that the music creates for someone or even the feelings and emotions that the artists are creating for themselves. Just like any other music the lyrics play a very important role in how any music is perceived. The lyrics are basically a story that the musician is telling. Like any other type of music, rock and roll has a certain way of delivering that story.
The tones and beats of rock and roll music are very different than that of any other genre of music. For example, when I listen to rock and roll music it puts me in a really good mood and motivates me, but if I am listening to blues music it tends to put me in a bad mood and makes me sad. Rock and roll music makes me feel so alive. It doesn’t matter what I am doing, if I am listening to rock and roll music it makes whatever I am doing ten times better.
The feelings and emotions that rock and roll music exhibit on me make me feel connected to the artist in a way that is unexplainable. The lyrics of rock and roll music usually tell stories that are real and true and because of that I can relate to rock and roll music better than I can any other type of music, almost as though the stories being told are my own stories. There are only a few genres of music that I would consider to fall under the rock and roll category, classic rock, pop rock, punk rock, hard rock and metal.
These different genres all exhibit the same sort of tones and beats in music. Rock and roll music is fast, loud, aggressive and sometimes sexual in nature. What I like to think of as great rock and roll music are songs from artists such as Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Guns N Roses and The Rolling Stones. These are just a few of a large list of great rock and roll artists. If you do not feel good about yourself while listening to rock and roll music than rock and roll music isn’t for you.
