The article “Vaccines Are Bad For You” by Organic Health Advisor begins with speaking about the H1N1 swine flu. As the H1N1 vaccination became available for people, it began to raise questions. The article explains Americans beginning to get ready to receive the vaccine but questioned if vaccines were actually bad for you. Since vaccinations have been around for so long, hearing news regarding the dangers of vaccinations became a sudden interest. The claim from this article explains that vaccinations were actually threatening. Which led to the evidence given in the article stating that doctors and medical experts were linking vaccines to Autism.
As a child born in the U.S., vaccinations are well known to be important while growing up. Valldejuli stated “Vaccines research and development started mainly because of the smallpox outbreak in the late 70s.” (Valldejuli, 2015). According to Organic Health Advisor, “Vaccines mess with your immune system and provide openings for other diseases to invade your body.”(Vaccines Are Bad For You, 2009). The article is an unreliable source and is almost bias because as the website is called Organic Health Advisor, you would think the website would encourage people to receive these vaccinations but instead expresses people not to use them. The site is a host for fake news because it over exaggerates the information, making it seem as if receiving vaccinations are the cause of diseases. The result being that if it enters our bodies it can cause some serious health issues.
The immunization policy accounts for many schools and jobs because most places want to keep the environment safe from any old or new diseases that may occur. As a college student I was asked to turn in my own records. Logically, this makes sense but Organic Health Advisor believes otherwise. As I said before, information from this website is fake news because of the way the story is seen to the public. The reason being is because the false information is being intentionally deceptive. In class we read an article by Sabrina Tavernise,“Fake news, and the proliferation of raw opinion that passes for news, is creating confusion.” (Tavernise, 2017). Sabrina explains how our own opinions are starting to have an impact on the news we read. I understand what she is saying because I see these types of stories on facebook all the time, the daily clickbait, “Eat this and you’ll lose weight overnight!” and all of the facebook comments being reviews of if the article is good.
Reading “Vaccines Are Bad For You” has made me realize how dangerous this article actually is. Knowing what is right and wrong by just reading something off of twitter has become pretty difficult .To believe fake news like this leads to more and more fake news spread onto social media platforms. There are people out there who tend to believe everything they read. So as fake news continues to spread lies, the more people will not care to figure what the actual truth behind it is. Whatever news they read whether it be about vaccinations or anything else, the reader should research themselves whether or not the news is reliable and if it is coming from a dependable source.
Vaccinations are being said to cause more harm than good. Growing up I knew that when my mom was taking me to the doctors I was either getting a checkup or a shot. Of course when you’re young you don’t know how the shots will impact you. Although this may be the case, if a highly scholared certified doctor suggests to get a shot for example, the flu shot, they are recommending it for reason. No matter how many articles and facts are put out to the media, the idea of vaccines being bad for your health will always be out there. It’s a matter of believing the evidence provided in the text and looking up the facts yourself to learn what is true and what is not.
