School shooting is something that has been going on for decades after the researched I did, as it relates to school shooting; down will be some facts that I have gathered from credible sources in doing this research. School-related, shootings, particularly those that are dramatic, evoke strong public outcry, and justifiable so.
According to Sociology Compass (2007), “an apparent spate of incidents occurring between 1997 and 2001, it seemed as if the US was on the brink of moral panic concerning delinquency and nihilistic youth culture.’ Since then, school shooting has become keyboards for complex set of emotions surrounding youth risk, fear, and delinquency in the 21st century in America.
By the Washington Post (2018), since 2012 and six years later, American schools experienced a record-breaking year for carnage, with 94 people shot, 33 of them fatally. School is a place where children lives are transformed to improve this great nation, so if we (students) are considered the future, we deserve proper protection.
Since the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School has exposed about at least 220,000 students to gun violence at school (WP, 2018). According to Stein (2000), one alarmist went so far as to label Columbine as a metaphor for a contemporary crisis of the youth culture. Having said that, I wish that the Federal Government should take an irreversible stand; if anyone is caught in such an act, he or she must face justice harshly than any other offenders.
Because those that are found in this act often go to prison and start receiving proper care in prison, and it should not be so. If a person takes another person’s life without, he, /she act in self-defense, that person has no right to live. There should be a zero-tolerance law enacted to strip citizens of guns, to control school shooting because some children might go searching behind their parents and take their guns to do whatever they desire. School shootings and widespread community gun violence are far greater in the United States than other nations.
America cannot be great and realize its promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness if children are not safe from gun violence. Everyone is entitled to live despite his/her race, and/or financial status. The world considered the United States of America as one of the greatest nations, but it cannot handle something as little as school shooting. We as human need a mindset and policy from reaction to prevention.
Prevention entails more than security measures and begins long before gunman comes to school. We need a comprehensive public health approach to gun violence that is informed by the scientific evidence and free from partisan politics. I believe in union strong success is sure, and with God above all we shall prevail as one of the most powerful nations, as the world believes. Cutting through the hype and public emotion about school shootings, in the background social scientists have been at work in trying to tease out the varying dimensions of this phenomenon.
Despite the widely diffused recognition and fear associated with gun violence in schools, empirical evidence indicates that schools are among the safest place for children, compare to their homes and neighborhood environs. If the Federal Government do not take a drastic necessary measure against this hideous act by condemning it to the lowest esteem, our beloved nation shall be known as an area where students get kill. School related shooting is an act that should not be ignored because it might bring the US’ educational environments down to the drain.
