Percy Jackson is about a regular boy who meets supernatural/nonhuman characters that are in mythology. He doesn’t believe the characters are real until he finds out that his dad is a god. His mission was to find a god’s weapon and return it safely before there is war. The story of Percy Jackson is a myth because it has certain elements of mythology, such as fate/prophecy, supernatural/nonhuman, a tension between forces and quest.

Most myths include fate/prophecy and supernatural/nonhuman characters in which the Percy Jackson also has. In Elements of Mythology, it says “Neither gods nor humans seem able to escape fate, despite many attempts to do so.” Percy´s fate/prophecy was “You shall fail to save what mattered most in the end.” He tried to save his mother but he let her save herself. Percy´s fate came true, although he tried to escape it. This shows the element fate/prophecy in the story. Another part in the Element Of Mythology were “Some of the characters in myths are often nonhuman.” Percy met Chiron, who was nonhuman and myths often have the element of Supernatural/Nonhuman characters in it so the Percy Jackson story can be counted as a myth.

Myths also contain tension between forces and a quest or completion of a task. In Elements Of Mythology, it states, “Heroes, fighting to overcome evil monsters.” Percy has to fight the evil monsters that Luke and Ares summon. The last element that was in Element of Mythology was “Myths often tell stories of human characters who travel between worlds to complete a task; for example, finding someone or something.” Percy had to travel to the underworld to find his mother and the lightning bolt. The elements of mythology combine to make a myth.

In addition, there are other confirmed myths that have similar key elements. For instance, the myth “Shrouded in Myth” contains two elements of mythology that is in Percy Jackson as well. One detail that demonstrates an element of mythology is “The king of Argos, was given a prophecy that he would someday be killed by his grandson.” This is an example of the element Fate/Prophecy. Another detail that shows an element of mythology is “Zeus turned himself into golden rain.” This detail has the element of Supernatural/Nonhuman characters. Because this confirmed myth has two of the mentioned mythological elements, the story of Percy Jackson is a myth as well

In conclusion, The story of Percy Jackson is a myth because it has certain elements of mythology, such as fate/prophecy, supernatural/nonhuman, a tension between forces and quest. Different elements of mythology go together to make one whole myth. Other myths that have the same mythological elements make the story a myth as well. The Percy Jackson story is indeed a myth.
