A hero is somebody who is selfless, who is generous in spirit, who just tries to give back as much as possible and help people. A hero to me is someone who saves people and who deeply cares. ‘said by Debi Mazar- is an American actress and television personality, known for playing sharp-tongued women.
People need heroes because heroes save or improve lives and because heroes are inspiring. Heroes elevate us emotionally; they heal our psychological ills; they build connections between people; they encourage us to transform ourselves for the better; and they call us to become heroes and help others. A hero is steady, selfless, kind. Who serious think before make decision even in a chaotic state. Who concern more about other than himself. Who is benevolent and nice to everyone.
A hero is steady, who serious think before make decision even in a chaotic state. For instance, Stanislav Petrov- the man who saved the world was calm even faced a significant problem that will start a full-scale nuclear war. When an alarm announced that United States had launched missile at the Soviet Union, everyone was panic about what to do. Petrov imperturbable think before making decision. ‘Though the bunker atmosphere was chaotic, Petrov, who had trained as a scientist, took the time to analyze the data carefully before making his decision.'(Hawkin 2)
At this critical situation, he full display what should we do in front of the emergency case. In other word, we should dispassionate think about what to do next rather than just panic. The event Petrov averting the nuclear crisis will affect more people to be a steady person like him. This trait is important part of being hero because if you weren’t composed in front of the problem the panic will beat you down and you will not make a right decision. As another illustration, a 10 years old boy helps save baby brother from choking to death. When he finds out his brother isn’t breathing, and parent wasn’t in home he didn’t get dread.
The first things he does is calm think what to do ‘Ben called 911 and emphasized the seriousness of what was happening.'(Mass) consequently he got a praise from his parents ‘He is a calm and cool kid and just knew what to do,’ their mom Cina Doctoroff said. Even he is only 10 years old, but he is still a role model for people, he teaches people to have a normal mentality while facing problem. This boy impacts more people like him to be courageously solve issue instead of hysteria sobbing. If the boy acted differently when problem show up his brother will dead, his parent will be torn with grief and no one will be happy since that. In brief, steady is a vital component of heroism. This characteristic will affect the choice hero make.
Hero is selfless, who concern more about other than himself. To enumerate how hero was selfless, Betty Chen is an example. She was torture and abuse under the Mao Zedong regime in China when she was young. In the late ’60s she arrived in America. But separated from her family and lived on the street by herself. She had nothing to eat, hungry all the time. The American friendly behavior stuck in her heart and it became the new start of her life.
As she is growing up she don’t want anyone go through her painful experience, so she decides to help the homeless person, cook for them for no profit as a major job. ‘And when I feed somebody, I fulfill myself. … I help myself heal. And each day I find another piece of my life.’ (Torgan) this is what she said when she does the service to homeless person, she doesn’t expect the person she helps will pay back. She enjoys helping them instead of taking things from them.
This is what true hero will do. This trait is an important part being a hero because if a person is not selfless, consider about other. People will not stand out for justice or wouldn’t helping others to make the world better. If everyone only doing things benefit to themselves, no one will not impact the world. It is the driving force behind heroism. A person become heroes when they do something for others. Someone who does something only for self-gain cannot be called a hero. Betty Chen effect more people like her to help other with no expectation to pay back, more serve to the society or our world. She is a role model because helping other is become a major thing she do every day for no profit.
Important to realize, should we consider a person who seem like hero for everyone but treat his family like trash? Hero should be selfless, who concern more about other. Family is extremely important. I think all of you know Gandhi-often known by the honorific “Mahatma”, meaning “great soul” the reason most people consider he is a hero because he led the struggle for India’s independence from British rule. But no one know what he was like when he is not in public. ‘The real Gandhi mistreated his family. He wrote about his illiterate wife: ‘I simply cannot bear to look at Ba’s face.
The expression is often like that on the face of a meek cow and gives one the feeling as a cow occasionally does, that in her own dump manner she is saying something. ‘He refused to educate his sons, ordered them as young men to abstain from sex, and disowned the eldest, Harilal, for warning to get married. ‘(Manzoor) Also, when Gandhi’s wife was suffering of pneumonia, a penicillin shot was the cure for the disease. Gandhi didn’t allow that shot stating that the medicine was alien and that God would pull her through. That is a preposterous excuse to not save his wife. These evidences seem like Gandhi dislikes his wife a lot even when she was going to died and needed to shot medicine to keep her alive. That was cruel action to do to his wife. He also sent his grandniece, Manu into a jungle to get pumice stone for his feet.
That jungle was infamous for rapists awaiting prey. When Manu came back and was in tears, he unconcerned about what happened. Those things shouldn’t be what a hero should do. Gandhi become a negative example because to be a hero you must be selfless, when anyone need help someone have to lend a hand, nonchalant isn’t a good respond for that. Also, if Gandhi treat his family like trash how can he treat others better than that? If he acted differently in front of those situation, he will gain eminent reputation from the public and his family will love and support him more. Overall, selfless is an important characteristic for hero to have, who concern more about others.
Hero is kind, who is benevolent and nice to help everyone. For example, Luke Mickelson who used to work with a high salary job- a high school quarterback-turned-family-man. But when he met children who were sleeping on the floor, his idyllic life changed course. He quit his job and take no salary from the nonprofit.
He started buying wood and supplies to build beds with his own money, set up a formal charity with the motto ‘No kid sleeps on the floor in our town.’ at one interview the reporter asks how do Luke make ends meet? He said ‘I quit my job of 18 years because I wanted to do this full-time, or at least as much as I possibly could, because I knew the need was big. It just came to a point where I could see that my passion really is helping these kids.'(Klairmont) this is an extraordinary action, not most people will as generous as him. Think back to today’s society, how many people are working for no profit job? Luke was the one of them, he works for the homeless kid for no profit, get the money from his pocket as a supply to build bed.
He was fulfilled when every bed sends out to those kid. That was an awesome conduct. He is a positive example of kind because he shows how hard he works to let kids be able to sleep in bed, for those homeless kid Luke was god, was their second father, was their belief, bed is luxury for them, is something that not dare expect. This was so kind to do for homeless kids. The bed he gives is not just a bed, is a place call home. He is role model, his kindness supports many kid to carry on their dream, became a person like him service to the society. Another great example who named Elissa Montanti was suffering from paralyzing anxiety and frequent panic attacks when she was young. She had lived through the loss of her mother, it was a nightmare for her.
Now she was age of 65, Through an accidental opportunity, she knows there was a fundraiser for children in Bosnia. So Montanti decide to do something for those children. She starts of her Global Medical Relief Fund – a nonprofit that helps children who have birth defects or are victims of war or natural disasters. Since 1998, her organization has brought more than 300 children from 46 countries to the United States. ‘I spend 24/7 working on this, and I’ve given up a lot in my personal life. But this is what I was meant to do. Seeing these children heal and become whole again is the best thing in my life.'(Dunn)
Hero such as her always vehement to help for no pay. Her word did express how joyous she was when she help the children. Kind is the important component hero should have, without kind there will be no kid get help from, no person to trust, no hero in the world. Montani impact more people to proceed even there was tragedy happened on you. Keep your pace of going forward, there will be someday dispel the clouds and see the sun. If Montanti act differently when his mother died, for example she was at a standstill, give up with everything. She will not have any accomplishment such as start Global Medical Relief fund to help more children.
Consequently, kind is an essential component for hero to have. A hero must be steady, selfless, and kind. Hero is a person who tries to give back as much as possible and help people. ‘I’m saying to be a hero is means you step across the line and are willing to make a sacrifice, so heroes always are making a sacrifice. Heroes always take a risk. Heroes always deviant. Heroes always doing something that most people don’t, and we want to change – I want to democratize heroism to say any of us can be a hero.” Said by Philip Zimbardo-is an American psychologist and a professor emeritus at Stanford University.
If you look around, people do compassionate and caring things every day. Heroes and heroines can be everyday people doing extraordinary things. They don’t do it for the publicity, money, or because we are keeping score. They simply are the human beings we aspire to be and can be. We learn hero because we need heroes and foremost, our heroes help defines the limits of our aspirations. We largely define our ideals by the heroes we choose, and our ideals — things like courage, honor, and justice — largely define us. Our heroes are symbols for us of all the qualities we would like to possess and all the ambitions we would like to satisfy.
