Early on I learned some of the dos and don’ts and right and wrongs in the workplace. I witnessed sexual harassment and quid pro quo as well as many other terms involving human resource management. I got my first job at 15 working as a cashier at a local restaurant and quickly learned the real meaning of HR and who and what it stood for. At this point, it sparked an interest in me to want to work in that department once I got out of college.
In college, I decided to take Business with a concentration in Management as I felt it would lead and guide me in the right direction to eventually go into the field I so longed to be in. Having a business degree would give me the needed skills to be a success. The concentration in management would give me the extra boost and the needed skillset to lead people and be the voice and mouthpiece that some employees need to be successful in a company.
As I was set to go to college, I got the perfect opportunity to go into management without pursuing my degree and skip straight into the real world. Not only was I working for a successful business, but I was also a manager which killed two birds with one stone without the four years of exams, research, early morning classes, and hustle and bustle of college campus living life. After getting tired of the long hours and all the chaos that came with this position, I decided that I needed to get back in the game and pursue my degree. I chose the same major and concentration as I still felt drawn to human resource management. After long nights of studying, doing research, writing papers, and taking tests, I can finally say I have a Business degree with a concentration in management.
Even after this wonderful achievement, I still feel like this degree is not enough. There is so much that I still need to learn and be exposed to and I feel a Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources will help me achieve my goals. It will open doors to opportunities that may not have been available had I not chosen to pursue this degree. I feel I will be well equipped with the needed skills and corporate knowledge to climb the ladder of success. I am interested in this field as it plays an imperative role towards achieving objectives and goals within my organization, primarily in terms of hiring, training, rewarding, and keeping the best employees for my company as well as dealing with any performance issues that may arise along the way.
My career goal is to someday be one of the top leaders in the Human Resource department where we place a high priority on one’s performance and professionalism, leading my organization towards the goals set by leadership, and make use of the knowledge I have gained both by experience and schooling.
I strongly believe your university is the best institution for me to further hone in on my talent and eventually earn my MBA at the end of my education. I am glad to share my dream of being successful with your institution, as I see it, my success is not just mine, but also a reflection of the fine institution that has given me the opportunity to further my education and sharpen my skills. I look forward to learning and broadening my horizon with NC A&T.
