In 1955, Jinn Young published his first Wax novel in Hong Kong it called ‘The Book and the Sword”. Which talks about during the rule of Ganglion Emperor, a secret society called The Red Flower Society which was trying to overthrow the Dynasty (The Book and the Swords, 2010).

Jinn Young used a method called cultural nationalism to Mite this novel; in this story, Jinn Young expresses the cultural nationalism in four ways: Martial Arts, Imperial Chinese History, Confucianism, and religious aspects. First, we have to understand what is cultural nationalism; cultural nationalism is actually a small part of nationalism, which we can simply understand as culture plus nationalism.

Culture is a term that has various meanings (Culture, 2010), which most commonly used in three basic senses: excellence of taste in the fine arts and humanities; integrated pattern of human knowledge, belief and behavior; and set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an institution, organization or group, Nationalism involves a throng identification of a group of individuals with a political entity defined in national terms (Nationalism, 2010).

It is generally describe either as an attitude to you when you care about your national identity or the action when you are seeking for the self-determination of your nation. It simply describe as people look at the importance of their state above everything. In addition, nationalism expresses when people are identifying their national culture with a negative view to other races or cultures. Cultural nationalism can be explained as what unites individuals together, it could be common language and ethnic identity; or example: two different nations which share the same language and same type of music.

In Math book and The Swords” Jinn Young expresses the cultural nationalism in four different ways. In Martial arts, the reason that Jinn Young choose to write martial arts fiction instead Of Others types Of novels is because martial arts is a tradition in Chinese history and an art that has been passed on through centuries. Whenever we mention about martial arts, people immediately realize that it is part of Chinese culture. In addition, martial arts fictions had appeared from the warring states period through the Tang Dynasty chivalric Chianti tales, p to the classic Mining Dynasty novel, the “Water Margin”.

Martial arts became a Chinese culture. Jinn Young uses his fiction to illustrate and tell readers what Chinese tradition is. Math Book and the Swords” shows cultural nationalism as Jinn Young uses martial arts to show the ethnic struggle, and the complex and conflicted relationships that portray moral and psychological responses to themes like love, loyalty, and identity. Therefore, martial arts is not the “key” to cultural nationalism, it is more like a “link” for people to see the culture through the elite to a martial artist.

In Imperial Chinese History, we all know history is one of the “tools” that defines a person or an ethnic identity. History isn’t only text that records the past; it is also an opportunity for people to learn from others. History can teach people about the lifestyle, culture and events that others were experiencing in the past. People can learn from their mistakes or the great discoveries that people did. Therefore, history is more like a “guide” to show people what their ancestors believed in.

Furthermore, eve are sharing our history with Others also as we are accepting new friends to be a part Of our group. We an conclude that by sharing the history of a country with people living in it, we are all sharing the same nation. In most Of Jinn Yang’s work, he focuses on the idea of Han Chicane’s self-determination and identity. Humanity is a core in core in Confucianism, Which included ‘Washing” and “Size”; unchain” consisting five elements: Humanity, Righteousness, Ritual, Knowledge, and Integrity. “Size” means Loyalty, Filial Piety, Contingency, and Righteousness.

Jinn Yang’s work shows a great amount of respect and approval for traditional Chinese values, especially Confucian ideals such as the proper relationship between empire and object, father and son, elder brother and younger brother, and particularly strongly, due to the Wax nature of his novels; between master and disciple, and fellow disciples. In the hook. There are lots of places showing all these ideas; for example, the relationship between Chin Julio and other disciples in Red Flower Society. Even though Chin is younger than some disciples but they are loyal to Chin.

These Confucian ideas influence Chicane’s values for many centuries. Even now it is still engraved in Chicane’s mind. People can clearly understand Chicane’s form of thinking by propagating these ideals, in order to analyze what lids up the Chinese cultural nationalism, In the last part, Jinn Young brings in lots of religion element, such as Buddhism and Taoism which are familiar with Chinese. Buddhism and Taoism play major roles in Chinese tradition; a lot of people from the past made judgments based of the rules and foundation of those religion.

As a result, Chinese history avgas also influenced by religious aspects. Moreover, political situation is also a reason why Jinn Young wrote “The Book and the Sword”, Many Of his novels are set in time periods When China under the threat of the northern people such as Skittish, Churches, Mongols, or Munches. In “The Book and The Sword”, the struggle between Munch and Han represents one of the most obvious links that reflects Hong Kong which was once a British colony.

The political and cultural implications of Hong Gong’s colonial status are unquestionably relevant to an understanding of Jinn Young work because people can easily find importance through the content in the text. Jinn Young promote the story in different way, he didn’t apply an negative view on other culture, instead, he tried to say that there is a way which two cultures can be co-exist, not against each other, In conclusion, cultural nationalism brings a success to Jinn Yang’s novel.

First, Jinn Young re-foregrounds the struggle between Munch and Han, posing as the key element of its plot a crisis that could bring about a radical resolution tooth question to dynastic authority. Second, he personalized the cultural conflict into the relationship between Jingling and Chin Julio only, which makes the story more interesting. Third, using Martial arts, Confucianism, imperial Chinese history, and religious aspects can help to catch readers attention.
