Since I was around 5 or 6 years old I always loved playing with other people’s hair and doing their makeup, not good makeup because I was so young but just playing with the little kid pallets from Walmart, or playing with my mom’s makeup box. When I was little I would use my Bratz dolls as my personal clients and would do their hair and makeup until I thought it was perfect and stylish. I would like to pursue in the cosmetology field because I like to help other people with their needs and wants as well as mine. I am aware that while working in this industry I will work with many different people who like different styles and not everything that I do they will like, so in this field, I would need to have an open mind to new ideas and start to make suggestions to improve my working ethics.
I feel I can do anything as long as I have the determination to do it. Many people go to cosmetology school to work for someone else, but I would like to open up my own business someday and be a self-employed cosmetologist. I have many talents and interest that will help me succeed in the cosmetology field like communication skills, business skills, a sense of creativity. As of now, I love to do my friends makeup for their proms, winter balls, concert make up, and more. Makeup and hair are harder than it looks, it takes patience and hand-eye coordination. With different clients, they all have different taste in hair and makeup and you have to be willing to take suggestions an open yourself up. It is not an easy start but it takes a great commitment to continue in this field. Many people enroll in schools like the “Paul Mitchell School” to learn the basic fundamental skills to become a cosmetologist.
A cosmetologist’s creative skills, business skills, and communication skills need to be very effective. Other skills are required as well, but without these basic skills, a cosmetologist will not succeed in the industry. Being a cosmetologist means that sometimes you have to let your client know its okay to try new styles and that everything will not always work on them. As new trends are invented or start to resurface from previous years you will need to stay updated. This is great for me because I love seeing new trends and looking into what people think is the new “in” and even though it may not be exactly “my style” I have to be open to the new idea or my business will not succeed. In conclusion, my future career is to become a self-employed cosmetologist. I have the communication, creativity skills, and business skills to do so, this does not mean that I am perfect. There is still so much for me to work on in the meantime, but until I can achieve my goals I can still use the opinions people give me to improve my working ethics.
