Having him constantly in your thoughts can be cute for having a crush on someone because it will give a sense of inspiration, and you just daydream and find yourself smiling as you say “Oh, I can’t stop thinking about him!”. But for people who feel frustrated that they can’t get him off their mind, there are actually a lot of ways to stop this from happening and we’re going to discuss each one.
Thinking about him can be a hard thing to stop when you miss him, when you guys just broke up, when he did a mistake you just can’t shake off or when he passed away, in this case, we are sorry for your loss and we hope this blog makes you feel better.
Like I said, there are actually many ways to get him off your mind so you don’t have to worry now. There are ways you can do for yourself, do alone or some activities you can do with your friends. It really depends on your mood.
Here are some ways that you can do to avoid thinking about him too much:
1. Identify the reason why you’re thinking about him!
Before trying to avoid the thoughts you have about him, you first need to identify why you are feeling this way. Why do you need to do this? Because for you to avoid something, you must know what you’re avoiding, right? If you’re thinking about him cause he cheated, or if the relationship just ended or if he’s acting coldly towards you and you just can’t stop wondering.
2. Change the habits.
When you’re in a relationship, there are already habits or some routines in your day that you do for him, like sending him a message when you’re about to leave the house or letting him know that your day is over. Change the habits and routines you have formed for him. These are small things that will easily help you think about him and when you do, consciously stop yourself from doing it.
3. Hide away the things he gave.
I know you’ve got some photos or a thing that he gave displayed in your room. Hide it and stash it away in the corner because it’s going to make you instantly think about him when you see it. Waking up looking at his photo will already have an effect for the whole day and the emotions just get all riled up.
4. Do something for yourself!
Is there are movie that you really wanted to watch but was not able to because he doesn’t like to watch it? Or a restaurant you wanted to dine in but he’s not into the cuisine? How about a place you wanted to visit but he’s just not into the scene? Come on, it’s time for you to do it. Explore those places and do the things you want to do. Do these for yourself and not for anyone else.
5. Find a distraction!
Have something that will distract you and keep you focused on other things instead. You can attend some workshops for poetry, singing, dancing and other activities that you feel that you are talented in. Enroll yourself to the gym. Distracting yourself but at the same time you are actually making yourself better too. That’s a win-win situation for you right?
6. Break the communication with him.
Stop communicating with him if you want to stop thinking about him. Do not allow communication with him because when you are interacting to someone, it makes you want to talk to them more it makes you remember some details you had in the conversation. Block him in your social media pages and block his number on your phone. Help yourself avoid the temptation of responding to his texts or chats.
7. Forgive.
It may be really simple to say but can be really hard to do. It’s a challenge you must overcome because when you forgive, you lift off a heavy weight in your chest and that’s not a good thing for your inner peace as well. Forgive and let go of all the pain he has done to you. Stop asking questions that were not answered. Move on, you can do it step by step. There’s no rush, move on at your own pace. Forgive in your own time but just be sure you are in your way to progress.
8. Don’t talk about him with friends.
I know, the girlfriends will always ask what happened and try to get more details but if you’re not ready to talk about him yet, let them know. Don’t get him involved in conversations, don’t allow him to be a topic. Because when you do, you then start to hear more opinions about him, it may get you mad or sad, whatever the case, you will feel the need to talk to him again.
9. Focus on yourself.
Get something done that will help you focus on yourself, to reinvent. There might be some skills you can develop while you’re trying to distract yourself or there might be some hidden talents you never knew you are good at until you’ve tried it. Go out with friends, bring your social life back and live in the moment. Stop thinking about what could have been and start focusing in the now.
Life without him may not be easy at first but you are strong and independent. Remember what life was before him? Now you can have it again but living it better now that you’ve grown and learned a lot of things that you can apply in the future. Think about the future and plan ahead on things. Make new memories with new people. The world is too big to explore and there is only little time to do so you better get started. There is no rush and no pressure, don’t worry. Just promise yourself that you are progressing to a better version of yourself.
