Introduction
Being college students seems to be the best time for almost all people. The feelings and emotions you have every day are full of happiness and freedom. But writing an essay or any other higher institution assignments stop your idyll and make you turn back to the real world.
The concept of writing a good essay is on the hook. If you’ll attract the reader from the first statement, then there is no doubt that the reader will read it until the end. Thesis statement plays an important role as well. Try to make it as persuasive as possible. Make the reader feel the emotions you’re talking about.
A human is a social being. All his life is surrounded by other people. Therefore, in carrying out one or another act, we somehow look at the society, hoping for its support and fearing its condemnation. By doing so, people set the frames and limit themselves.
The most interesting thing in the existence of stereotypes is that their content is not written in books, they are not taught in schools, but nevertheless the installation of ancestors firmly sits in our heads. Sometimes a person can resist society, but sometimes we just follow the simple principles. It turns out that we rely not on our experience but on the experience of many generations. What makes us do the same, take alien words to believe? The answer is simple—fear. Fear of making a mistake, hurting yourself, hearing “How could you do that?”
Stereotype essay sample
Since there are a world and people in it, there are a variety of prohibitions, stereotypes, superstition, later discrimination, racism, etc. All these terms are relevant for the present. Even now, in each of us, there is a superstition or a stereotype, and not because it’s needed but because we want it. And sometimes we don’t even realize it. All processes of life are perceived and reacted by people only through their stereotypes. Even the whole world doesn’t really perceive what it is, but reproduce it through the prism of stereotypes.
Of course, time changes, and stereotypes are changed as well. People become more open and courageous. But they can’t completely get rid of such a phenomenon, as a stereotype. Just mention the relation to unequal marriages, in which one of two is wealthy, and one is poor. At present, the attitude towards this is much more loyal, but nevertheless, the existence of the expression “meet with a purse” or”detainee” still exists.
Stereotypes (beliefs) aren’t superstitions (settings). Stereotypes can hold superstition. They exist in all languages; you can hear many of them even in the English language. However, emotions, rules, prohibitions, orders, feelings, and stereotypes are things common and individual at the same time. They are a template, a measure that our brain doesn’t question because it’s a rule for people, and those things that we perceive as possibly-probable are stereotypes for us.
Why is it thought that all men are crazy about long-legged blondes? Or, why is the ideal figure of a woman 90-60-90 and not a centimeter more? Why do all the girls in a childhood dream of a prince on a white horse? Who said that the man’s ideal is a tall, broad-shouldered brunette with green eyes or a high blonde with blue? Why is a girl ashamed to be invited for dance? Why it is forbidden to wear trousers to the theater? To understand all those questions above, we need to take a look at a definition of stereotype.
The stereotype is a judgment about the features and behavior inherent in the representatives of a separate group that aren’t based or insufficiently based on facts. Stereotypes arise in the process of learning the surrounding world by a person.
Any stereotype covers only a part of true information, and the rest of the stereotypes are false representations or statements. Many stereotypes don’t arise from evil intentions but from our desire to simplify a very difficult life. As a rule, people rely on the following stereotypes:
- in the absence of time;
- in the case of high employment and overflight;
- in conditions of emotional excitement;
- in immature years when there is not enough life experience.
Often, differences between people are exaggerated, and they are generally underestimated. Stereotypes are characterized by persistence. They can be compared with such a natural phenomenon as an iceberg, only 1/10 of which we see above the surface of the water. It doesn’t matter if it is your or my stereotype, we’re inclined to follow them.
Conclusion
To sum up, we’d like to mention that the problems of stereotypes are in ourselves, in our emotions and feelings. A visual example we want to prove our point of view with is the next. Most of the girls (supposedly) are panicked of mice, not even remembering that it is not really necessary to immediately squeal and climb a chair because the mouse is such a “terrible creature”, which runs away.
A guy who wears wide trousers clogs dreadlocks and earrings in the nose is perceived as an uneducated, brutal man who lives only for himself, and has no moral and aesthetic values. Or another example can be shown on a person who tries to become a highly educated and a qualified specialist thanks to excellent training and hard work, is called a Poindexter, whose personal life is considered miserable by most of the society.
There are many examples, and everyone will be different. So why we can’t just break stupid rules and finally feel free from people’s opinions? Maybe we have become prisoners of public opinion of our society, rules, stereotypes that prevent us from being ourselves?!
Whether you’re writing a short or long essay, you need to know that each “stereotype” is born by some factor that highlights important problems and doesn’t occur in an empty place.
The stereotype is a source of problems people find for themselves. But it is difficult to imagine the world without any prohibitions, as there would be social chaos. And the most important thing is that they appear as fast as they disappear. And people consciousness comes up with new, more modern stereotypes, that can be described in your essay.
