Obesity has became one of the biggest health problems in America. As The years progress obesity becomes a critical issue to those who face it. We all know that fast food is not good for us, but everyone eats it anyway.
A typical American eats tons of unhealthy food daily as we have become so lazy to acknowledge or health choices. Obesity typically means having a body mass index of thirty kilograms or more. If taken in more calories than burned, it leads to being overweight, and eventually obesity.
Since the 1960s, people in the United States and other industrialized countries have become heavier on average. Excess weight is the cause of more illness than virtually any other medical condition. Most people still do not practice healthy behaviors that prevent obesity. People can blame a numeral factors but the reality comes within ourselves and the consumption of large numeral unhealthy food instead of healthy eating habits.
Most of the blame tends to be towards the thriving companies who are know to sell their products to the market. Many of which can’t be blamed for when we’re the ones deciding to eat it most of the unhealthy food with our own choices. Their biggest concern isn’t whether or not they’re producing something that’s good for us, all their concern comes down to the profits . They’re going to make things the cheapest possible way and sell it to us at for however much we’re willing to pay as they lure us in to continue this trend.
A starting cause of obesity lies within the person them self. Every person has a different body make, and a majority comes from your genetics. For example you are three times as likely to be overweight if your parents were . Most parents let their bad eating habits also affect their children, which is not the child’s fault. A great way to stop obesity at the source would be with how you children grow up and learning to eat healthy and stay active. Age much like genetics is a cause that is inevitable. As you get older your body’s ability to metabolize food slows down. This allows you to gain weight much faster than you are used to.
So while you are eating what you normally do it could over time cause weight gain without recognition. Your body is always changing and as a person gets older they also require much less calories to maintain your normal body weight. Many people then tend to blame the economy stating they can’t afford an alternative to a healthier option, However, Americans are still the ones choosing what to put in their bodies. For instance at a local supermarket like Walmart can buy a “pound of bananas at for about 49 cents”, pound of apples for 47 cents and a pound of carrots for 78 cents”( Source 1 ).
On the other hand going to places such as Mcdonalds you pay 70 for a dime, and that’s a deal, but continuing to eat like that long term has serious consequences. Much of which evoke risks of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, depression, and respiratory diseases. In recent studies food consumption has increased with “18.5% of children and nearly 40% of adults” (source 4) having this health issue of obesity. While diet and exercise alone may not be enough to cure obesity, they are still Alternatives to choose a healthy living style while you are capable.
