I chose to do my report on imagery because it is extremely captivating to me. It is amazing how one easily learned technique can speed up the recovery of addiction to handling stress. Additionally, to achieve my future intention of being an addiction therapist, I will need to understand and advise on this technique. Therefore, I figured I might as well start learning about it now. What is imagery? It is simply imagining something to improve success rate. For example, if you are trying to combat a problem such as smoking, you may try imagining yourself not smoking and not wanting a cigarette.
It is proven to raise your success rate. You can use imagery with almost anything. For instance, if you have a sleeping problem, imagine yourself sleeping. It will help. Stress? Imagine breathing a relaxing quality. Time pressure? Visualize yourself finishing the task you need to complete.
You can even use it to ease surgery, help the healing process both emotionally and physically, ease labor pains during childbirth, and improve management with chronic pain or illness. There is even a theory that you can boost your immune system. Imagery also ties in with hypnosis. It is based on the same technique. In hypnosis, you can do many of the same things as imagery, but hypnosis has a stronger ability. With hypnosis, many people claim to be able to go through many painful processes without any anesthetics or pain.
Another intriguing ability tied to imagery is the placebo effect. It tricks the brain into thinking it’s doing or getting something it’s not. There are many other treatments related to imagery, but those are the main two. When researching this topic, I discovered a lot, and it also got me more interested in imagery and the things it can treat.
I hope you benefited and learned how amazing and practical imagery is. Possibly, you are interested in a higher study of it. Thank you for your time.
