ve Been PreventedIn the play Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare, some characters who have good intentions end up causing the tragic deaths in the play. Friar Laurence is one of the characters who has good intentions that end with tragedy. Mercutio acting hastily with good intent causes his own death. Paris probably has the most true good intention, but if would not have challenged Romeo he would not have been killed. Friar Laurence is a character whose good intentions often cause tragedy.

One of Friar Laurences good intentions is marrying Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence marries them even though their parents knew nothing about it and that Romeo had loved Rosaline only a day before: Is Rosaline that thou didst love so dear/So soon forsaken?(Act II sc. iii). Another of Friar Laurences good intentions is when he gives Juliet the sleeping potion so she did not have to marry Paris: Take thou this vial, being then in bed/And this distilled liquor drink thou off(Act IV sc. i).

Mercutio is another character whose good intentions end his own death. Mercutios good intention is fighting Tybalt to defend Romeos honor: Oh, calm, dishonorable, vile submission!/Alla st occa carries it away. (Act III sc. i). This causes Romeo to break up the fight and Mercutio to be stabbed under Romeos arm. {Which in turn causes Romeo to fight and kill Tybalt, which causes Romeo to be banished from Verona.

}Paris is another character in Romeo and Juliet who has good intentions but they end his own life. One of Pariss good intentions is wanting to marry Juliet, which Lord Capulet approves. After he thinks Juliet is dead he brings flowers to put in her crypt. There he sees Romeo and thinks he has bad intentions and so they fight and Romeo kills Paris. Some characters who have good intentions end up causing tragic deaths in the play. Friar Laurence could have waited a few days to marry Romeo and Juliet.

Mercutio could have let Romeo walk away from the fight, and would not have lost his life. Paris really could not have done anything differently besides not challenging Romeo. I think that if some of the characters did not act so hastily, there would be no tragedy at the end through out the play.
