FINAL UPDATE: I DID IT!!! Pivot table is working perfectly now with quarters, product categories, and regions. The % of total calculation shows exactly what my professor wanted. I ended up using % of row total to show each region's contribution.
Slicers are working too - the Report Connections tip was clutch

Glad you figured it out! One last tip for future help with excel homework on pivot tables: save a copy of your file before making major changes. Pivot tables can get "corrupted" sometimes and it's good to have a backup.
