Challenges are beneficial I believe that challenges are good because they allow us to learn from our mistakes, overcome our challenges, make us better people, and help us learn how to deal with challenges better. Challenges are a part of life for everyone. When we come across challenges, it makes life seem unfair. But, when we overcome our challenges, we become better people. I was inspired to write about this topic because I want to share with the world about my challenges and how I overcome them. In an article called “Why Are Challenges Good?” it says, “Yes, life’s challenges can make things quite difficult at times. These difficulties force us to try harder.

They force us to become inventive. They force us to look for other solutions. It is out of these challenges that some of our greatest moments can arise”. (Stanley Bronstein) This quote explains that our challenges force us to try again. Our lives are improved if we can fix our mistakes. If we were not forced to fix our mistakes, everyone would have a growing pile of mistakes. Fixing these mistakes makes the pile of mistakes become smaller. A pile of mistakes is like a pile of trash. When you do not take out the trash, the pile will grow.

One challenge I have in life is ADHD. ADHD, or Attention-DeficiuHyperactivity Disorder, is a chronic condition including attention difficulty, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. Due to my ADHD, I have difficulty remembering a lot of things, and I’ve been told that I am untrustworthy because of it. Hearing this hurt, but it made me want to try harder to remember things. We should not let challenges negatively affect our lives. Rather, we should let those challenges have a positive impact on our lives, We need to challenge ourselves to fix our own mistakes. We cannot just leave them in the dust. If we do, we will not go anywhere. We would be left feeling guilty because of the mistakes we have made. Sometimes, when people make mistakes they overreact, and it ends badly. Overreacting can get in the way of overcoming our challenges. For example, some people self- harm because of mistakes they make. A quote I found on a discussion board about the reason why people self-harm when they make mistakes says:

“Making mistakes is something that is part of the nature of being human. On the other hand, we as individuals tend to be perfectionists. Unfortunately, being a human means that we are far away from perfection. Which is entirely okay, as mistakes and making them is what makes us beautiful. But sometimes, there is a misbalance in the mistakes we make and the way we are punished for them, mostly by ourselves. The need to punish exceeds the mistake itself. Long story short, no mistake done by yourself is worth it to punish yourself for eternity.” (chris91). This quote explains that people harm themselves because they feel the need to punish themselves. However, self-harming only makes things worse, as it adds to the list of mistakes people make.

Another challenge that I have is passing hard classes. Throughout my education here at Weber State, I have made a goal for myself to pass all my classes from now on. Yes, I know there will be ones that I might fail, but I am going to try my best to avoid failing my classes. In the last three semesters, I have failed a total of 12 credits, including math, microbiology, and history. Passing classes is a challenge for me because sometimes I struggle to focus in class, and I have bad testing anxiety. In order to overcome this challenge, I audio record the lessons. Then, I listen to the lecture and take notes. Sometimes the professor speaks too fast for me to understand, so audio recording the lectures help me solve this problem. Even if I still do not pass the class, I am leaming new ways to help me overcome my challenges. Another challenge I have is math. Math is extremely difficult for me, but I keep trying. I challenge myself every semester to pass math.

Sometimes it does not happen, but I get so close to a C. When this happens, I tell myself: “At least you tried. Keep trying and never give up”. In the summer of 2018, I finished math 0970 with a 67%. If I did not have three late assignments, 1 would have scored a 70% in the class and would be in math 2010 this fall or next spring. Unfortunately, I will have to repeat math 0970. But, I learned that I can pass math 0970 if I do all the assignments on time. This makes me want to try harder when I retake this class in the spring, and motivates me to overcome this particular challenge.

T believe that learning from our mistakes is a huge part of our lives. Without mistakes we cannot challenge ourselves to fix our mistakes. Professor Basu Mali said, “Despite failure, only the person trying to learn from mistakes can advance in life”. I believe that this is true. If you do not fix your mistakes, you will just be stuck in the place where that mistake happened. Adam C. Olson, a professor at Brigham Young University said this about fixing mistakes: “President Thomas S. Monson has taught, “One of God’s greatest gifts to us is the joy of trying again, for no failure ever need be final.’ Even if we’ve been a conscious, deliberate sinner or have repeatedly faced failure and disappointment, the moment we decide to try again, the Atonement of Christ can help us.” (Adam C. Olson) This quote explains that the Atonement of Christ can help us defeat the mistakes we make by fixing them if we trust in God. The atonement is the act performed by Jesus Christ that saves us from our sins if we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior. The atonement has helped me overcome challenges by knowing that God and Jesus Christ are there for me and can help. When I need help, I can speak to God by praying and ask for help. God has heard and answered my prayers. I believe that to overcome challenges, we need to become comfortable with change.

Bryan Falchuk said in his Ted Talk called Overcoming Challenges to Achieve Goals, “We judge our past. This is because we live in the judgement of our past. So, get through today. I’m talking about doing what you must do to get through. You don’t just achieve by waiting for the storm to end. Feel the purpose of the action. That’s how you get things done. We deserve and can have great lives. I hope everyone can find a bit of allowance in themselves for themselves.” T like this quote because it reminds me that if you wait for the storm to end, you will never overcome a challenge. Remember that challenges are part of our lives. One secret of mine that I use to help me overcome challenges is to always stay positive, because negativity gets you nowhere. Positivity makes challenges easier to get through because when you have a positive outlook, you will be able to see challenges as opportunities rather than roadblocks.

I believe that challenges and mistakes make us who we are. Without them our lives would be pointless. The reason I say this is because challenges make us stronger throughout our lives. If we don’t have a way to make us stronger, then what is the point of life? “Take chances, make mistakes. That is how you grow. Pain nourishes your courage. You have to fail to practice being brave.” (Mary Tyler Moore) I like this quote because it helps me gain courage to challenge myself to fix my mistakes. My last challenge that I will mention is mood changes. My mood changes affect my life every day. When I do not know how to do something, or I cannot do it, I get angry. My life growing up was full of mood changes. l am not bipolar, but mood changes are a part of mny disability.

I overcame this challenge by having mood therapy. I also learned how to overcome my mood changes by spending a certain amount of time in my room alone and doing something I love, like writing and coloring in my 17 geometric design adult coloring books. By choosing good, healthy outlets, I was able to overcome this challenge. “You can’t plan in advance for everything-every mood swing, every mistake you might make in execution, every shift in your circumstances. But you can keep updating your plan.” (Eric Maisel) This quote explains that mood changes are part of life. You cannot stop the mood changes, but you can change how to deal with them.

I have chosen to deal with my mood changes ina way that positively affects my life. Dealing with challenges can be compared to running a race. Every challenge is a stepP closer to the finish line. To tinish the race, we must complete each challenge before us and fix mistakes we make along the way. T have made many mistakes during my life time. Mistakes are part of life. We cannot give up, we must keep trying. How we deal with challenges is what determines our destiny. Each challenge we overcome shapes our destiny. I believe that challenges are important because they allow us to learn how to overcome them, learm from our mistakes, and become better people,
