My Philosophy of Life

When thinking about my philosophy I had to think about what shaped me to be the way I am, when I was brainstorming my philosophy I started to think, “Why am I here? What is the reason I am on earth?” I realized when we were given this assignment I didn’t have a purpose or philosophy and I decided on one. I always want to be kind to others, stay organized, and always try my hardest.

Being kind to others is my first main point of philosophy. Even though being kind is widely encouraged by all of the major religions in the world and is expected in many cultures around the world, it’s really hard to be kind. We all have fallen victim to this. To be honest, at some points in our life, it feels easier to be unkind rather than being kind. especially when we are not in a good place in our lives, or when we don’t particularly like a person or agree with their morals. I never want to fall victim to being unkind to someone when I have the chance to be kind to them. When I say “being kind” I don’t mean anything extravagant. It can be as simple as a smiling at the cashier in the drive through while you pick up your food, or giving up your seat for somebody in a public setting,, or buying something for the person behind you in line that doesn’t have enough money. To me, It is a way of connecting and creating a bond, even if only for a short moment, with those that we pass in our daily lives.

My second idea of philosophy is staying organized. I know staying organized may not seem like a way of life or philosophy, but if you think about it organization is really the glue that keeps our lives intact. Without even realizing it, you are practicing organization on a daily basis. For example, as a young child you had to learn to go to the bathroom in the washroom or to put your toys away neatly. Even today we use organization all the time. Waking up on time to go to school, setting a time aside for doing your homework, or for leisure activities. Organization is a part of living within a society. whether you’re very laid back or a last minute type person, or have OCD, you have to admit that organization is vital for living in today’s society.

My third, and final part to my philosophy is to always try your hardest, even if you aren’t good at what you are doing. If you’re not doing your best, then you’re not going to come out with the best results. When you aren’t trying your best, you’re setting yourself up to create bad habits and in the end have a below average performance on whatever it is that you are doing. Every day, in every aspect of our lives, we have the option of doing our best or something less than our best. At those moments, there may be numerous excuses that are bouncing around in your head that tell you that you shouldn’t give it your all. But there’s still a great reason why you should always do your very best that overrides all of the reasons why you shouldn’t. It’s simple, because you can! There is no reason to me why someone shouldn’t try their hardest at something. If you aren’t going to do something at the best of your ability then don’t do it at all.

Where do right and wrong come from? If from our parents then where do our parents get it from? Some people would argue that religion has a significant part to play in where our moral sense comes from. Religion is a belief that tells us a set of rules to follow and commit to. If the religion tells us to help the needy and do charity as it is the right thing to do as a follower of that religion, then that will reflect on us as a person and we will most likely help the needy and do charity work. the same applies to what is wrong, if your religion says that taking somebody else’s life is wrong, then you will probably be inclined to not do it. If a person follows his or her religion very strictly, then the person will most likely change his or her way of life to what their religion expects of them. This, in turn will unconsciously affect their sense of right from wrong even without them knowing it. Different religions can have a slightly different sense of what is right and wrong but in the end the basis is the same. Also, media has a huge role, especially on the younger generation, on what is right and what is wrong. TV, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Video games. All these are sources affect us and show us what is seen as acceptable or not acceptable. Which in the end, then influences our own personal outlook on what is right or wrong. People who are very tuned in to shows that show violence or bad behavior will be influenced by what they see and hear especially at a young age, and slowly, they will be affected in their sense of judgement as to what is morally right or wrong.
