Illegal Immigration in the United States

It is not a fundamental right to be an American citizen unless you were born in the United States or migrated here legally. Many leftists argue that illegal immigration is part of the American Dream. Moreover, building a wall is racist. According to Tucker Carlson, illegal immigrants cost the United States $135 billion a year in medical, educational, and law enforcement expenses. While illegal immigrants pay taxes because there are taxes on everything. Illegal immigrants pay $19 billion a year in taxes. This leaves a large deficit for Americans to pay, “illegal immigrants cost American taxpayers $116 billion dollars a year.” Illegal immigrants are using services such as social services, abusing the healthcare system, public education, and using other services that they are not paying for. It is hard to know exactly how many illegal immigrants there are in the United States, but according to a study done by the Federation for American Immigration Reform, there are approximately 11 million illegal immigrants. We need strong national security. A nation needs borders, we need to know who enters and leaves this country. The most effective way possible to eliminate illegal immigration is to build a wall.

To put the spending of illegal immigrants into perspective, “Americans pay $70 billion in tuition for public universities. If we were to eliminate the spending of illegal immigration, we could make every public university free, and still have $50 billion left over.” 24% of illegal immigrants are over the age of 50 and are not contributing economically. If these illegal immigrants gain citizenship,m they will be eligible for social security and medicare, even though they paid very little into these systems.

The most liberal estimation for a border wall is $20 billion. Which is really nothing, since our annual budget is $4 trillion. The argument that most illegal immigrants have overstayed their visas is factually incorrect. The fact is, “42% of illegal immigrants have overstayed visa’s and the rest crossed the border illegally.” People coming from the South of the border are not of refugee status. For someone to be refugee status, they have to be oppressed; usually, under a regime that systematically oppresses for faith, race, or creed facing harm, usual death by the government. This does not apply to Mexico. Christians in Syria being burned alive by ISIS in cages would qualify as refugee status, but not someone in Mexico trying to escape the cartel. Walls are effective and do work. For example, “in Israel, it eliminated 99% of illegal immigration.”

Democrats support some type of barrier being built, yet a wall is racist. Nancy Pelosi and Obama said we needed to build a 700-900 mile fence on the Southern borders, Pelosi agreed to fund it. The comprehensive plan Trump wants to put forward enforces laws that were put in place by Obama. This will crack down on those with overstayed visas and deport those who are here illegally. The wall has created some ethnocentrism among many people. Personally, I am not aware of a Republican saying we need to keep out brown people. Many Republicans would say, we need to stop illegal immigration.

Illegal immigrants commit crimes disproportionally. 27% of illegal immigrants make up our federal prison population. Incarceration costs American taxpayers “$38.8 billion” , the cost of incarceration will decrease if we eliminate illegal immigrants in our federal prison population. As taxpayers, we shouldn’t have to pay for their food, utilities, phone calls, and healthcare. I also think it would be terrible if someone got killed or raped by someone who had no business being here in the first place. Illegal immigrants from the South bring “nearly 100% of the heroin, 90% of the cocaine, almost all the meth, and fentanyl.” Fentanyl is killing the youth, and if it’s not killing them, they are either in jail or in rehab funded by the government. It all circles back to illegal immigrants, they bring the drugs that are killing the American population. They bring the crime that is killing the American people, this is why we need a wall to make sure we as Americans are protected.

A common claim among many who don’t support the idea of a wall, tend to argue that we are a Nation of Immigrants. There is a difference between legal immigrants and illegal immigrants. We have come a long way from Ellis Island, but putting that aside, they migrated to America before it was a welfare state. Illegal immigrants are benefiting from welfare. This hurts American taxpayers, both using and not using welfare. Welfare entices immigrants to come here illegally because we are a welfare state. I think we should take the money from welfare and put it into a legitimate form of government, our national defense.

The harm of allowing illegal immigrants in the United States; not only do illegal immigrants hurt the economy and commit crimes disproportionally, but they are also harming legal immigrants. Legal immigrants, people who have been waiting to come here legally, obey the lay, and follow the rules, get hurt because our immigration system is overburdened. The United States is superior to Mexico. We are a nation with a constitution, inalienable rights, and a free enterprise economy. For those reasons, we are a desirable country. For those same reasons is why immigrants need to come to the United States legally. We have a set of laws that we need to enforce.

Deporting all illegal immigrants; both with overstayed visas and those who have crossed the border illegally, will help our economy boom, incarceration rate decrease, drug use will subside, and our national security will be stronger. America was built on the idea of long term success, we are the country that went from being oppressed one century, going to a new land, to now be the strongest country in the world. The wall only embodies the idea of long term success.
