As stated in the “https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/transgenderism” the definition of Transgenderism is “A state or condition in which a person’s identity does not conform unambiguously to conventional ideas of male or female gender.” Sexual identity or sexual expression of the transgender is different from the identified sex or from how he or she was originally born into this world. Transgenders are sometimes called sex changers if they want to use medical support to allow them to become who they feel they are within. Other definitions of transgender as stated in “The Peculiar Position Of India’s Third Gender Sara Hylton-Jeffrey Gettleman-Eve Lyons – https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/17/style/india-third-gender-hijras-transgender.html. “Behind the theatrics are often sad stories — of the sex trade and exploitation, cruel and dangerous castrations, being cast out and constantly humiliated. Within India’s L.G.B.T. community, the hijras maintain their own somewhat secretive subculture.”

Notice this annotation also expresses how tough it can be to live in this world with transgender views. I myself am neither transgender nor gay but I do have quite a few friends who are and I’ve personally seen how cruel people can be towards them.

With that being said, that brings me to my next topic from my research ; Gender Dysphoria. tgmentalhealth.com/basic-issues-in-transgender-mental-health/. Gender Dysphoria – This is a fundamental unease and dissatisfaction with the biological sex one is born with which results in anxiety, depression, restlessness, and other symptoms. The dysphoria often acts as a catalyst to change one’s body and gender expression (how one presents to the world) to be more in keeping with what is felt to be one’s gender identity (the gender that one feels oneself to be). Not only could one who is born with the transgender mind set feel depressed or suicidal from everyday association with the outside world but the dysphoria can cause these feelings as well. In fact the suicide rates for these individuals have been on the rise. www.hrc.org/blog/new-study-reveals-shocking-rates-of-attempted-suicide-among-trans-adolescen. More than half of transgender male teens who participated in the survey reported attempting suicide in their lifetime, while 29.9 percent of transgender female teens said they attempted suicide. Among non-binary youth, 41.8 percent of respondents stated that they had attempted suicide at some point in their lives.

I chose my particular sources because I believe society today versus when our grandparents’ were around, has become more accepting of gay/ transgender community but there are still a lot of negativity surrounding it as well. I was hoping by writing this paper tonight that it would help bring more insight to the issue and that we should all learn to be more accepting of everyone, no matter their views. I learned that this was not only an issue in our country but in others around the world as well. I used Google to obtain the majority of my sources. I took the time when cycling through various sources to ensure they gave accurate and meaningful information regarding this topic, as well as data acquired from different studies and research. Some of the things I would say were unsuccessful while researching this topic would be the lack of information. There were multiple credible sources but I feel as though a lot of them that I clicked on were expressing the same information. My whole process to write and research this paper took me about 3 hours. I would say some of the things I learned through this process were the suicide rates within individuals with transgender views as well as how much they can potentially struggle with on a daily basis with mental health and acceptance. I also learned I need to take the time to do my original work for this class. I understand this is going to affect my grade significantly because I didn’t take the time I should have and I can assure you it won’t happen again.
