In each programme of Newsround the music is strange but a bit fun aswell. The mood it sets is that it is for younger children and not for adults. The first image that the public sees is of a computer generated Newsround logo, which then leads into a still camera shot of the presenter. The impressions that these images give us is that it is a lively and up beat show. In the programme the first camera shot is of the presenter because she welcomes you to the show. What you see of the studio is a big chair with a laptop on it, the Newsround logo and the lighting.

There are two presenters in the show and one of them is in the studio and one of them is out reporting the one in the studio is called Becky, she’s aged between 20-25. She wears up to date and stylish clothes. The position that she stands in the studio is near the back wall so you can see the Newsround logo, the presenter who is reporting outside the studio is called Lezo and he’s aged between 20-25 aswell. The tone of voice that they use is just right for each report, because when it’s sad or dramatic they speak as though they really care.

The way Newsround whets the appetite of its viewers when the headlines are introduced are that it just says the basic facts about each story and they make them enjoyable. The orders of the headlines that are used in Newsround are presented that it goes from the most interesting or most important to the least interesting or least important. They start by showing the story about truancy. They show this story first because it’s the most important to a younger age, its most important because its about children ‘skiving’ off school. If it were on the 6 o’clock news it wouldn’t be as important as it is on Newsround.

Then they go through the not so important ones and then they go back on to a longer one about a weird work of art. For the different types of camera shots they are quite different because when it’s on the work of art story the camera is on a slant. The lighting effects used are mainly shone onto the presenter. In each programme then length of each story depends on how important the story is. For example the story about the Peace Process was a major story so it was covered for longer. But the seal story wasn’t that important so it only got a few seconds worth of report.

Although it did just tell you the main facts about the story. The techniques that they use are tilted camera angles and when they show flashbacks they are in black and white, this lets you know that it’s already been shown on Newsround before. They also try and get the viewers involved by saying what do “you” think. In the programme they also use slang words like ‘skive’ and ‘not on’, they use these because the kids that watch Newsround might use them words. They use alliteration in the headlines, such as ‘punishing parents’ and ‘tougher on truants’.

They use these to make the headlines sound more interesting and better. The programme ends by the presenter telling the viewers about a ‘Press Pack’ competition. They tell the audience to send a piece of writing 100-150 words long to say how they feel about the things that are happening in Ireland. The final story in this Newsround was about a 200-foot sculpture. In the story they ask ordinary people what they think the sculpture is, they do this because no-one knows what it is. Even the artists don’t know. The studio presenter ends the programme by saying “see ya”.

She says this because the kids wouldn’t really say “goodbye”. The last time we see the studio presenter she is standing up near the back of the set, holding pieces of paper. The closing images are of the presenter, Becky, smiling at the camera. The music at the end is the exactly the same as the start. The main techniques Newsround use to change the 6 o’clock news to appeal to kids are that they use slang terms such as ‘skive’, they also use computer graphics as a technique. Aswell they try to get the viewers involved by saying “you”. Also they interview kids to find out what they think.

The 6 o’clock news wouldn’t do that, they would only ask adults. Another technique used is that they use flash backs to jog the audiences memory. They use tilted camera angles to make it look better than just having the camera straight all the time. I feel that they have been very successful in changing the 6 o’clock news to suit kids. For example it makes it easier for kids to understand than the normal news. Also they don’t say “you” they say “the public”, they do this to get you involved which makes it more interesting. So in conclusion I th
