Photography is a visual means of revealing and subverting identity. A subject’s vulnerabilities, self-definition vs. imposed definition and unspoken truths can be captured through the medium. The relationship between viewer and image is a powerful one. As a photographer, I hope to make suggestions about my subjects by allowing the viewer ways of seeing familiar subjects on new terms.
After having moved to the Hudson Valley from New York City, I have become more interested in abstraction, moving away from investigations of portraiture. This has allowed me to consider new ways of working and new forms of expression. I find inspiration in active investigation. The camera has become not only a recorder of images, but a divining rod.
