ARTSCAPE: Art in a Landscape Studio Tour ARTSCAPE: Art in a Landscape Studio Tour is offered this year on Saturday and Sunday, May 17 & 18, 2008, from 10 AM – 4 PM. ARTSCAPE
features the work of 14 artists from Columbia County and offers a
unique opportunity for art lovers to see outstanding works of art in
the studios in which they were created. These are private spaces that are
open to the public exclusively for this event.
As a part of Artscape 2008, Greg Lock, a sculptor and professor, will be creating a sculptural installation and video artwork based upon the annual studio tour event. This will be a study of the entire tour in Virtual Reality. Greg is planning to create a 3D computer model of each and every participant's studio, be it a building or room. These modular sketches, formed on the computer, will have minimal architectural detailing yet act as a recognizable signature of each creative space. From the computer models he will generate actual forms using a 3D printer. A LOM (Layered Object Manufacture) printer will produce small white sculptures (in a vinyl/plaster compound) of each studio space. These will be the base element of the installation. Within a simulated environment at the CCCA office (209 Warren) the studios will react to gravity wind and momentum. This installation will be ready to be experienced in early May. Artscape After Hours, a benefit celebration, provides another
opportunity to meet with participating artists. It will be hosted by
CCCA and Dennis Wedlick at Hudson River Studio, at 17 North 4th Street
in Hudson at the corner of Columbia Street on Saturday evening May 17th From 5-7 pm. Festivities will feature action painting by Chelle Mayer and musician Slink Moss. Curator Melissa Stafford, a will offer an introduction to her latest effort,
Plugged In, which features 25 new media installations by 15 artists,
throughout the city of Hudson. Plugged will be premiering the same
evening. . Tickets for Artscape after are available at $75 per person,
$125 per couple. This event is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts.
